Vardhamana Mahavira, born around 599 BCE in present-day Bihar, India, was the 24th and last Tirthankara (spiritual teacher) of Jainism. He renounced worldly life at age 30 and attained Kevala Jnana (omniscience) after 12 years of intense asceticism.
