World Wide Web Goes Public

Tim Berners-Lee made the World Wide Web available to the general public, transforming global communication.

On August 6, 1991, Tim Berners-Lee, a British computer scientist at CERN, published the first website and made the World Wide Web available to the general public. Berners-Lee had invented the web in 1989 as a way for scientists to share information. The web, built on top of the internet, revolutionized communication, commerce, entertainment, and virtually every aspect of modern life. Berners-Lee chose not to patent his invention, making it freely available to all.
