SpaceX Starship Completes First Successful Orbital Flight
SpaceX's Starship — the largest and most powerful rocket ever built — completed its first successful orbital-class flight, bringing Mars colonization closer to reality.
In 2024, SpaceX's Starship — standing 397 feet tall, powered by 33 Raptor engines generating 16.7 million pounds of thrust — achieved a series of increasingly successful test flights after earlier attempts ended in explosions. The fully reusable rocket system, designed to carry 100+ tons to orbit and eventually transport humans to Mars, demonstrated its Super Heavy booster returning to the launch tower and Starship reaching orbital velocity. The achievement was critical to NASA's Artemis program (which selected Starship as its lunar lander) and to Elon Musk's long-stated goal of making humanity multiplanetary.
