Code of Hammurabi Established

One of the earliest and most complete written legal codes, established by Babylonian King Hammurabi.

The Code of Hammurabi is one of the oldest deciphered writings of significant length in the world. Created by the Babylonian king Hammurabi, it consists of 282 laws with scaled punishments. The code addresses matters of contract, household, and family relations, and established the principle of presumption of innocence. It was inscribed on a black diorite stele that stands over seven feet tall.
